Ingredients

  • 2 each Pork Rib Racks Spare ribs or Baby back ribs

Dry Rub

  • 2 1/2 tbsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tbsp Black Pepper
  • 1 qt Chicken or Veg stock or broth Low sodium, use as needed

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 1/2 cups BBQ Sauce Sweet Baby Rays Original BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup Maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup Stock or Broth Low sodium

Instructions

Ribs

  • Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F.
  • Coat the bottom of your baking dish with aluminum foil. This will help with easy cleanup.
  • Mix all dry spices together in a small bowl. Taste spice mix and adjust seasonings to your liking. Set aside when ready.
  • Remove the membrane from the back of your ribs. You can pull this off easily using your hands. (See the video for a step by step tutorial)
  • Once you have removed the membrane from both of your racks of ribs, begin to rub a generous amount of your spice blend to the front and back of your ribs. Make sure you spread an even amount across both racks.
  • Once your ribs are evenly seasoned, place ribs in a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, flip your ribs, add about 1/2 cup of stock to the bottom of your baking dish, recover with foil and cook for an additional 1 hr to 1 hr 1/2 or until ribs are fork-tender and they fall off of the bone.
  • Enjoy ribs as is or if preferred add BBQ sauce to them.
  • These Ribs are even better on the grill! See notes below.

BBQ Sauce

  • To a small pan, add BBQ sauce, maple syrup, stock/broth. Heat together until hot and serve over your ribs. Add salt only if needed.

Notes

Stock:
Adding stock helps to keep your ribs moist and also prevents the brown sugar from burning. Add liquid as needed. If you do not have stock or broth, water will do.

BBQ Sauce:
I tend to find store-purchased BBQ sauce to be a bit too thick and overly concentrated. Often times the flavors are too sharp for my liking. I absolutely love Sweet Baby Rays, Original BBQ sauce.
Even still to enhance this bbq sauce, I usually add my own fixings. I thin out the bbq sauce with a bit of low sodium stock or broth and I add a bit of maple syrup. Sometimes I even add some liquid smoke or mustard. Depending on how I am feeling and what I am making.
As always, have fun with your dishes and make them your own. We are not baking so nothing has to be exact.
